
The Theme for previous editions of CONNECT are given below and focused sessions were arranged in line with the Theme with a view to bring more investment to Tamil Nadu State and to explore the potential of the State in IT/ ICT Sector:
Connect 2010 featured sector specific parallel tracks on Automotive, Healthcare, Entertainment and Security. It also featured parallel tracks on Physical infrastructure, Digital infrastructure & Inclusiveness, Financial City & Smart Governance and HR & Skills.
The event helped ideate sustainable growth models for the IT sector and suggested the necessary facilities and academics skills required to develop an agenda for the growth of IT in the next ten years. The event also included a B2B exposition participated by over 42 leading companies that showcased products, technologies, solutions and services across the entire ICT spectrum.
The event was inaugurated by Mr V Narayanasamy, Hon’ble Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of India.
A Report on “India 2009-10: Broadband Roadmap for Inclusive Growth” was released by Union Minister for IT & Communication. The sessions at CONNECT 2009 focused on Re-inventing Indian ICT for the new world order, leveraging intrinsic strengths of ICT for refueling growth, building India’s digital infrastructure for competitive positioning, tapping the latent potential in rural India, and greener and cleaner IT. The Conference addressed some key topics such as Clustering for Sustainable Growth, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Infrastructure & Leisure, Venture Economics, CII-Connect Entrepreneurs Award Night, Competency Creation and Parallel Sessions were also organized on Hardware, Auto / Design Services, IT Software and Knowledge Process Outsourcing.
An announcement was made by the Chief Guest Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu State to bring out new IT Policy which would be released shortly which would comprehensively cover all sectors of the IT Industry with the separate policy for IT hardware manufacturing and biotechnology. The ICICI Venture – CII Connect Entrepreneur Awards’ were presented at the event were aimed at fostering young talent and entrepreneurship in the ICT field and to recognize their outstanding contributions. A three day B2C Exposition ‘Digital Home’, showcased products, technology solutions and services across the entire ICT continuum of hardware and electronics, telecommunications, software and BPO.
Then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi J. Jayalalithaa was the Chief Guest and released the ITES Policy 2005 during the Inaugural Session. The CM launched the Knowledge Industry Township (KIT) Project and the land documents of the KIT Project were handed over. The KIT initiative was conceived by the CII to promote investments in the knowledge based industries in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu.
Talking about the importance of reaching IT to the rural parts, the Hon’ble CM announced that in a massive IT project, the state would provide necessary hardware and content to every village Panchayat in TN for the information dissemination at rural level. The Panchayats would be linked on to the TN state Wide Area Network (TNSWAN) which was under implementation.
2005 edition featured latest IT solutions which enabled the IT sector in India to accelerate its growth. Global software and hardware solutions leaders showcased and launched their latest products and services in the Indian market. The conference was made as a platform to educate the participants on unique features of showcased products and services, who were primarily from IT and ITES solutions providers and also the users benefited largely by their participation.
The event comprised of an Exhibition and a four day Conference. Conferences included a special plenary session on ‘Excellence in Manufacturing & Services through IT’, Wireless Conference on the Theme ‘India on the threshold of the Wireless Revolution’, i-govern ‘Emerging B2B opportunities in States on e-Governance’, Smart man – ‘Emerging Integrated e-Solutions for the Manufacturing Sector’ and i-Serve – ‘Emerging Integrated e-Solutions for the Services Sector.
The major highlights were the four day exhibition, the BPO Conference, CIO Summit and the parallel Round table sessions on ITES in Healthcare, BFSI, Engineering and HR. The Exhibition had representation from around 85 companies in the IT & ITES sector.
This edition focused on the trends in ICT, the ICT opportunities in TN and the Government’s initiative to move towards Digital Governance through e-Governance.
Inaugurated by then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi J. Jayalalithaa and the IT Policy 2002 for Tamil Nadu was released. Besides that, Mahindra Industrial city was also inaugurated by the CM. Several international representatives from USA, Singapore and Mauritius participated.
The first CONNECT was inaugurated and blessed by then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi J. Jayalalithaa. The two day conference and four day exhibition brought together a galaxy of eminent international speakers and renowned experts from USA, Singapore and India.
The Conference mainly addressed on role of IT in the new millennium, IT & India tomorrow, trends in e-Security, contribution of IT to BT, models for success in bio-informatics, e-learning, infrastructure for knowledge based industries, e-governance, next generation networks, mobile and fixed wireless access, the new world of IP, e-business transformation, virtual private networks, mobile internet, e-government: challenges and opportunities, telecom reforms in India – the future agenda.
